Basic Rider Course

msfThe MSF Basic Rider Course is offered to those with no riding experience at all and/or novice riders to include long-time riders. This course teaches fundamental skills and is not intended to produce the superb riding skills of an experienced rider; rather, it provides a basic entry-level skills for a new rider to begin practicing and developing the mental and motor skills important for safe street operation.

The Basic Riders Course will consist of approximately 10 hours of riding on the range and 5 hours of classroom instruction. In the classroom, you will learn ways to minimize risk and handle special riding situations. During the riding portions of the basic riders course you will be coached to develop the physical skills of basic control that include: clutch/throttle control, straight-line riding, turning and shifting, and then move on to the more advanced skills to include stopping quickly, cornering and swerving.

This training is provided in a group situation, acceptance in the class does not guarantee successful completion. To successfully complete the course you must:

  • Attend all sessions
  • Achieve a minimum score on a knowledge test covering course material
  • Achieve a passing score on the riding/skill evaluation

The riding skill evaluation consists of four exercises that assess limited/space maneuvering skills as well as braking, cornering, and swerving competencies. Even if you have been riding for a long time, don’t be fooled into believing that you will not learn a lot in the Basic Motorcycle Class.

Upon successful completion of the Basic Riders Course, you will be issued a completion card to be presented to the Florida Drivers License Division for your new drivers license with the motorcycle endorsement. Completion of this course excuses you from any further testing.

All courses are taught by friendly and knowledgeable rider coaches who are certified by the MSF as well as the Florida Rider Training Program. We strive to provide a positive / low stress learning environment.
